Welcome to AWANA Clubs at Tri-County Baptist Church

Hundreds of thousands of boys and girls worldwide are learning God’s Word in AWANA’s Clubs each week. AWANA is a nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization providing weekday clubs and programs since 1980. AWANA Clubs meet during the school year at Tri-County Baptist Church on Wednesday nights from 6:45 to 8:10 PM.

Our purpose is for kids to embrace saving faith in Christ and develop a Biblical foundation for their lives in a fun and competitive environment. Children ages 4 to 6th grade are welcome to attend. We start on Wednesdays nights at 6:45 in the Family Life Center (Gym).

Cubbies is for preschool children ages 4-5. We meet with Mrs. Brower in the Family Life center (gym) then go downstairs to rooms WB-110 through 119 and enjoy lessons, singing, games, snacks, and meeting Cubbie Bear.

The Cubbies curriculum features two handbooks written in a fun, storybook style that appeals to preschoolers. The handbooks contain 24 Bear Hug sections along with six optional special-day sections. Each section combines basic Scripture memory with parent-child activities to help a child grasp a simple biblical truth. Two extra-credit handbooks containing additional memory verses and character-building activities are also available

The Cubbies go through their handbook together at the rate of one section per week. That way the lesson and activities each week compliment the verses they are learning.

When children attend AWANA for the first time, they are given the Sparks Flight 3:16. When they pass the booklet,   and earn the Flight 3:16 Award the Director presents them with an official Sparks Club membership card (which they keep in their vest pocket). As official club members they are eligible to purchase the official Sparks uniform and the Hang Glider Handbook.

When Sparkies complete the Rank Path, the second achievement level, they receive a Swiss-loomed Hang Glider, Wing Runner, or Sky Stormer rank patch for their uniform. These patches are sewn on under the Sparks emblem to be displayed.

Red Jewels are Bible Drill Awards. As the Sparkies complete each of the four Red Jewels, they receive a Red Jewel to wear on their Rank achievement wings.

Green Jewels are Activity Awards. Green Jewels represent the fourth achievement level. As the Sparkies complete each of the four Green Jewels, they receive a Green Jewel to wear on their Rank achievement wings.

Green Wings = Hang Gliders           Blue Wings = Wing Runners          Red Wings = Sky Stormer

After completing all Rank Path, Red Jewel, and Green Jewel sections a Clubber may earn the Review Patch. To achieve this patch, Sparkies must review their handbook or complete the Review section on the frequent flyer books.

To keep things fun and interesting, there are monthly Theme nights and Special Promotions. Special promotions serve to provide an extra incentive for achievement in completing sections, bringing friends, or perfect attendance. Winners receive fun prizes.

Some examples of past Theme Nights include; Pajamas Night, Sports Night, Fake An Injury, Sunglasses Night, etc.

September Promotion – Perfect Attendance
October Promotion – Most Sections Said
November Promotion – Missionary Christmas

During Green Meadow Time the whole club comes together to sing Bible songs and to hear Bible based stories, missionary stories or short practical examples as how they can put the verses they are learning to work.

Before Game Time, the whole club moves to the gym area. The gym has two game circles and one is used by the Kindergarteners, while the First and Second graders use the other. All games involve some physical activity such as running or ball play. The Clubbers on each circle are separated into four teams, and they compete for high score. The winning team from each circle receives a small piece of candy for each team member. This can be a loud time as the Clubbers cheer on their teammates!
Sparky, the friendly firefly puppet can show up at any time to encourage the boys and girls to learn verses and complete assignments throughout the three handbooks.

The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third- through sixth-grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow — today. The club meets in the Family Life Center (gym) at 6:45 on Wednesdays during the school year. For handbook time, the boys meet with Mr. Wooldridge (3rd & 4th) and Mr. Kelly (5th & 6th) in rooms FLC 101-102 . The girls meet with Mrs. Wooldridge (3rd & 4th) and Mrs. Johann (5th & 6th) in rooms FLC 103-104. They enjoy weekly handbook time, Bible time, and intense game time.

T&T is equipped with a variety of dynamic tools to accomplish this mission:
  • Four handbooks of increasing difficulty which teach children that life’s ultimate adventure is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • A cast of fun characters that boys and girls learn from and follow on interesting journeys in the handbooks
  • Weekly meetings that expose children to the gospel message, Scripture memory, Bible study, awards, team-oriented games and gut-busting fun
  • A Bible-centered curriculum that helps kids build a firm foundation for their faith, hide God’s Word in their heart and apply the truths of Scripture to their daily lives

Evangelism and discipleship go hand in hand in our third- through sixth-grade program. By the time a child has completed T&T, he will have:
  • Learned and reviewed approximately 310 verses
  • Studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testament
  • Regularly heard and read the gospel message
  • Discovered the Bible’s response to questions like “How does God want me to live my life?” and memorized verses to back up these answers
  • Completed missions projects that help him see the world through God’s eyes.

Each of the four handbooks in our Truth & Training clubs investigates four questions. Eight answers from the Bible are provided for each question. Children will learn all eight answers to each of the questions and verses to back up these answers. The handbooks also include Bible studies and activities that allow children to delve into the subject matter.

Besides this curriculum, children can complete more challenging extra-credit sections throughout each handbook to earn special awards. Before beginning work in a handbook, newcomers to T&T must complete a short booklet that explains God’s plan of salvation. Then they are eligible to buy a shirt ($15) and handbook ($10).
